昨年、作品賞の取り違え事件に巻き込まれたウォーレン・ベイティとフェイ・ダナウェイが再び登場して発表した今年の作品賞は、ギレルモ・デル・トロ監督の『シェイプ・オブ・ウォーター』が受賞！
差別問題に揺れる今のアメリカで、メキシコ出身の監督、ギレルモ・デル・トロが撮った異形の生物と声を出せない女性との異種間の純愛を切なく描いたこのラブストーリーは、最多13部門でのノミネートのうち監督賞、作曲賞、美術賞と合わせて4冠を達成、昨年の「ムーンライト」から繋がる現代アメリカの世情を反映した受賞となりました。
また各部門では、『スリー・ビルボード』のフランシス・マクドーマンドが主演女優賞を、『ウィンストン・チャーチル ヒトラーから世界を救った男』のゲイリー・オールドマンが主演男優賞をとベテランが順当に受賞、『ウィンストン・チャーチル ヒトラーから世界を救った男』では日本人アーティストの辻一弘氏が日本人初となるメーキャップ・ヘアスタイリング賞受賞の快挙でした。
また撮影賞では、これまで13回ノミネートされながらも受賞を逃し続け、”無冠の帝王”と呼ばれていたロジャー・ディーキンスが『ブレードランナー2049』で遂に栄誉に輝いたのには感動しました。
