ユニバーサル・スタジオ初の3Dアニメーション映画。
世界一の大泥棒グルー（スティーブ・カレル）は社会のルールを完全無視でやりたい放題やっている世間の嫌われ者。彼は自宅の地下の秘密ラボにおびただしい数の極小バナナ人間"ミニオン"を従え、月泥棒という大仕事を企んでいた。しかし、オタク泥棒ベクター（ジェイソン・シーゲル）という強力なライバルが現れ、月を盗むのに欠かせない「縮ませ光線銃」がベクターの手に渡ってしまって大ピンチ。そんな時、グルーはクッキーを売り込みやってきた三人の孤児の女の子を利用しようと考えるのだが…。
どこか懐かしいカートゥーン風のキャラが単純なジョークで多いに笑わせてくれ、心温まるラストや声の出演のスティーブ・カレルの名演技も見どころ。お勧めの一本！
