アメリカ公民権運動のまっただ中の1965年アラバマ州。黒人が白人から故意的に有権者登録を妨害されていることに対し、指導者キング牧師（デヴィッド・オイェロウォ）らは非暴力のデモ行進を決行。州都モンゴメリーを目指してセルマを出発するが、数百人の黒人に対し、白人警官は催涙ガスや警棒で攻撃する事態が発生。その様子がテレビで報道されると、全米から支持者がセルマに終結する。やがて、キング牧師らの運動はジョンソン大統領（トム・ウィルキンソン）をも動かすことに…。
アラバマ州セルマで起こった"血の日曜日事件"を題材に、黒人指導者マーティン・ルーサー・キング牧師を描いた歴史ドラマ。第87回アカデミー賞作品賞ノミネート作。 |
