1930年代パリ。駅の時計台にたったひとりで住んでいる孤児の少年ヒューゴ(エイサ・バターフィールド)の日課は、時計台のメンテナンスをし、カフェから食べ物を盗み、時計職人であり発明家だった父(ジュード・ロウ)が遺した機械人形の修理のための部品を拾い集めること。いつかその人形を動かすことを夢見てきたヒューゴだったが、駅のおもちゃ屋で盗みを働こうとしたところを店主ジョルジュ(ベン・キングズレー)に捕まり、人形の設計図が描かれた父のノートを没収されてしまう。この事をきっかけにジョルジュの養女イザベル(クロエ・グレース・モレッツ)と親しくなったヒューゴは、人形を動かすために欠かせないハート型の鍵の存在を知るのだが…。 機械人形に隠された秘密を探るうちに、人々の運命までも変えてゆく不思議な少年を描いた世界的なベストセラー小説を、セピア調の美しい3Dで映像化した感動のファンタジー。予想外の展開となるクライマックスは、映画ファンの涙をそそるお勧めの一本!
