60年代。ペンシルバニアの製鋼所で働くマイケル（ロバート・デ・ニーロ）、ニック（クリストファー・ウォーケン）、スティーブン（ジョン・カザール）は、休みの日に鹿狩りをして楽しんでいた。やがてベトナムに出征した彼らは戦場で再会を果たすが、敵に捕らわれてしまい、残酷なゲームを強要される。そして、極限まで精神を追い詰められながらも脱走を果たしたマイケルは、やがて残酷な現実に直面することになる…！監督は「天国への階段」のマイケル・チミノ。
