80歳の老人のような容姿で生まれきたベンジャミンは、ボタン工場を営む裕福な父に疎まれ、生を受けた直後に老人介護施設に置き去りにされてしまう。愛情深い施設長や、あらゆる人生の荒波を乗り越えて来た個性的な老人達に囲まれて類い稀な幼少期を過ごすベンジャミンの前に、ある日、10歳の少女デイジーが現れる。やがて二人の深い愛の絆は時や距離をも超え、儚くも美しい人生のつづれ織りを紡ぎだしてゆく…。
ともすれば年齢や容姿が最大の関心事となってしまう現代人にとって、老若に関わらず人生の限られた時を生きていることの重みを感じさせられる感動作。CGを効果的に用いているが、むしろ品格をたたえた演技で観る者の心を惹き付けるブラッド・ピットとケイト・ブランシェットのエイジレスな美しさに注目したい。
監督は「セブン」「ファイトクラブ」以来ブラッド・ピットと三度コンビを組むデビット・フィンチャー。
