ベン・アフレックが見事に監督復活を果たしたクライム・サスペンス傑作。
アメリカで最も強盗が多いと言われるマサチューセッツ州チャールズタウン。証拠を全く残さない鮮やかな手口で盗みを繰り返す覆面の強盗グループが銀行を襲い、支店長のクレア（レベッカ・ホール）を人質に取る。彼らはすぐにクレアを解放するが、リーダーのダグ（ベン・アフレック）は、自分が犯人であることを隠したままま彼女に近づいてゆく。次第に二人は惹かれ合い、ダグはクレアとの新しい人生を望むようになるのだが、仲間のジェム（ジェレミー・レナー）の反対や裏社会のしがらみから、彼の思うようにはならず…。
犯罪しか生きる道のない男とごく普通の女性との出会いを、サスペンスフルなクライム・アクションを交えじっくりと描いた見応えのある一本。原作はチャック・ホーガンの「強盗こそ、われらが宿命」。
