スティーヴン・スピルバーグ監督が青年と馬の深い絆を描いた感動作。
1914年イギリス。農村に住む青年アルバート（ジェレミー・アーヴァイン）は父親が農耕馬用に購入したサラブレッドにジョーイと名付け調教を始める。いつしかアルバートとジョーイの間にはかけがえのない絆が生まれるが、第一次世界大戦の勃発により、ジョーイは軍馬として騎馬隊に売られてしまう。それから4年の月日が経ち、アルバートは愛馬を探すため入隊。一方、ジョーイは敵・味方を超えて様々な人々と共に激戦をくぐり抜けており…。
