イギリスの片田舎の屋敷でナニーとして働くことになった若いアメリカ人女性グレタ（ローレン・コーハン）。しかし、屋敷の老夫婦から息子として紹介されたのは、実は実物大の子供の人形だった。20年前に息子を亡くした悲しみのあまり、夫婦は人形と暮らしていたのだった。グレタは厳格な数々に規則を強いられるが、やがて不可解な出来事を起こるようになり…。
