アイオア州の小さなある町の貯水池に人間が正気を失う毒が投げ込まれ、町中の人たちが徐々に異常者へと変貌、暴虐の限りを尽す事態に。その中で正気のまま残された保安官のダビッド（ティモシー・オリファント）と医師で妻のジュディー（ラダ・ミッチェル）は、生き残るために奮闘するが…。
